National Bird’s 2nd EP Veteran Beginners
A fiery explosion, of composed ignition, lights the flame once again in Minneapolis rock natives National Bird with their new EP Veteran Beginners, a follow-up to their 2010 EP Rhythm of Our Science, which established them as a solid rock group in the Twin Cities. The new EP doesn’t stray far from the first, keeping with the consistency of two lead song writers shuffling between the realms of daydream tangible and sci-fi imagination. Dan Wenz subtle yet fluent keyboard stroke create a cheerful mood for something that can be difficult for anyone in “Sudden Changes”— I’m ready and welcome the change with this great pop song. Casey Nelson’s crispy voice commands armies of zombie revolutionaries from post apocalyptic realms while fueling the fire with fast paced guitar jingles from Kris Johnson into a unyielding rock song “Survivor.”
The rhythm section Julie Palm and Ryan Otte continue to deliver the goods with Wenz’s catchy lyrics on “Pack Rat,”which I might note is a song to listen too live because you see the entire band at it’s best. National Bird’s second EP is a must have if you felt the first EP left you stranded in flight like the General Lee, well GTO lovers here’s one landing that only National Bird could make
You can listen too and request “Sudden Changes” or “Survivor” from the EP on The Current, Minneapolis public radio station.
